In 1997, the microbrew and burger joint known as The Flying Pig opened next to the Historic Everett Theater and was a huge hit with locals. It was Joel Starr’s baby, but years later he sold the house. After he left, the place was no longer the same and closed its doors shortly afterwards. But like the fabled phoenix, The Flying Pig is back with Starr intact, but in a new location on Hewitt Avenue. The 2.0 menu looks very similar to the old one and features the # 1 appetizer of the past: Cheddar Bacon Battered Shoestring Fries, the Mango Bango Pulled Pork Sandwich, and Pastrami Reuben Sandwich. The burgers are made with 75% ground brisket chuck beef, which is served on a brioche bun. A variety of local microbreweries on tap, as well as a full bar, are also available.

Museums: Free entry on Saturday
This Saturday is Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day, when participating museums across the country – but especially right here at home – are offering two free tickets to many museums. The catch, however, is that you need to order your tickets on the Smithsonian website. Don’t just go to a museum without a ticket or you will be sorely disappointed. Among the 16 participating museums in Washington: Museum of Glass, MOHAI, The Museum of Flight, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Foss Waterway Seaport, and Historic Fort Steilacoom.
