LONDON – (AP) – A huge fire broke out in an industrial park in the central English city of Leamington Spa on Friday, raising dramatic clouds of dark smoke that could be seen for miles.
The rescue workers evacuated nearby properties and asked residents to close their windows and doors. Local lawmaker Matt Western said the fire could involve chemicals from a plastics company.
Western said on Twitter that “the extent of the fire is staggering” but firefighters “are more and more confident about containing it”.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said he was on site but had not treated any patients.
The fire broke out not far from the center of Leamington, an 18th-century spa town about 160 kilometers north-west of London, famous for its elegant Regency architecture.
