The Port of Seattle received a large shipment on Sunday.

Four cranes from China with a height of 316 feet and a 240 foot boom were moved to Terminal 5.

They are among the largest on the entire west coast.

Port officials said the cranes can handle the largest container ships currently in service around the world.

“We will move more containers per ship. So we can increase the volume – you know, the world is growing, ”said Port President Fred Felleman. “With 18 to 20,000 containers per ship, we will still get the most out of it for some time.”

Officials hope the cranes will make the port more competitive and create jobs and economic opportunity.

Everett Port bought a pair of giant cranes from Los Angeles a few years ago.

It was part of a $ 57 million project upgrade at the South Terminal.
