Although many long-standing restaurants were closed forever last year, Seattle’s food scene is recovering from the pandemic lows with many new openings this fall.
From a swanky downtown steakhouse to a popular Korean fried chicken joint, here’s a look at some of the latest restaurant openings across town, plus a sneak preview of some to come.

Open: The Chicken Supply
After several successful pop-ups in the summer that were completely sold out, The Chicken Supply opened its stationary location in Greenwood last week. The spot mixes crispy, gluten-free fried chicken bites with Filipino side dishes such as pancit, coconut kale and marinated vegetables for a classic comfort meal.

To recover from the economic downturn of the COVID-19 pandemic, the downtown corridor has just earned a new elite steakhouse under the direction of Chef Michael Mina. The chic new eatery on Pike Street and 4th Avenue has everything you’d expect from a high-end chophouse: caviar, oyster platters, lobster tails and local beef cuts, plus an extensive cocktail and wine list.

After the closure of the Himalayan Sherpa House, the quiet Tangletown neighborhood got a brand new restaurant this month, Christine. The new restaurant focuses on using seasonal ingredients and serves Pacific Northwest comfort dishes such as local oysters, tender halibut cheeks and pasta for lunch and dinner.
As for the Himalayan Sherpa House, which was loved by this foodie, a note from the owners on Yelp said they plan to reopen in a new location next year.

Open: Halcyon Brewing
In addition to crispy platters of fried chicken, Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood also got a new draw when Halcyon served its first topping last weekend. The new family-owned eatery takes the place of the former Naked City Brewery, which closed in 2018, and has 14 taps, cider, wine, and multiple hot dog options for a quick bite.
Wunderground Café in Capitol Hill

Mixing medicinal mushrooms like reishi and lion’s mane with premium coffee, Wunderground opened its flagship cafe in Capitol Hill on the weekend after several successful pop-up shops this summer. In addition to coffee and their special mushroom-infused drinks that are filled with health benefits, the café also offers canapes such as cereal bowls, salads, bone broth, and sandwiches on homemade bread.

Open: Station 18 drinks and food
Located in Ballard’s old fire station on Russell Avenue NW, Station 18 Drinks and Eats opened last month and serves pub food, pizzas, beer and cocktails in the centuries-old space. The restaurant has multiple TVs, making it a good spot for game days and a dog-friendly patio.

After chef Preeti Agarwal found a successor serving contemporary Indian cuisine at Fremont’s Meesha, she opened her second restaurant in the Ravenna district earlier this month. Based on the sports clubs in India, Agarwal’s new spot offers dishes inspired by street food, regional specialties and creative cocktails to bring people together and give Indian food in the city a new dimension.

Coming soon: Maiz
After Maiz opened at Pike Place Market on November 2nd, it will soon be a lot easier to get your hands on fresh, handmade corn tortillas dulce, crispy tostadas with ceviche or chicken tinga and tamales.

Many sports fans mourned when Bill’s Off Broadway closed for good last summer after more than 40 years in business. And while nothing can replace the iconic pub, a new Korean fried chicken chain expanding to the west coast will breathe new life into the hangout. Although the signage is in place, no official opening date has been given, according to Capitol Hill Seattle.

A newcomer to Seattle’s growing donut scene, this plant-based donut truck opened in the Ballard neighborhood in the spring and sold out from pre-orders on day one. The queer food truck serves exciting vegan flavors like a maple glazed “Faconator” donut with smoky coconut bacon and a mango-glazed donut sprinkled with tagin.
After a successful spring and summer, Dough Joy will soon find a permanent home on Capitol Hill, where Old School Frozen Custard used to be. The owners have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the new location.
Jack’s BBQ is a must for carnivores.

This new cantina blends Mexican dishes with the smoked meat of the south and is the latest project by Jack Timmons from Jack’s BBQ. And true to Timmons’ Texan backdrop, the menu features plenty of smoked brisket, chicken tinga, and carne asada. In addition to many carnivorous options, the restaurant also serves puffy tacos, a San Antonio specialty.
Although an opening date has not yet been announced, the restaurant announced on Instagram that it plans to open sometime in the fall of 2021.
