One of Seattle’s coveted floating homes is now up for grabs on Lake Union, with a prime waterfront location and uninterrupted views of Gas Works Park. The building, designed by the local architecture firm Vandeventer + Carlander, makes optimal use of its location with a glass facade and east and west facing terraces.
This modern floating home on Lake Union in Seattle was completed in 2016 and recently put up for sale. At night, illuminated panels made of channel glass define a corner of the facade, which is also clad with teak slats and low-maintenance ceramic panels.
The translucent canal glass illuminates the entrance with plenty of natural light. A cantilevered staircase leads to the living areas, while a hallway (not shown) leads to the bedrooms of the house on this level.
The rectangular, two-story home sits on a concrete float 24 feet wide and 44 feet long, with an interior space of just over 1,600 square feet. On the upper floor there is a single open room with the kitchen as well as the living and dining area, which are connected to the two terraces via folding glass doors.
The two bedrooms and two bathrooms of the house are on the lower level. Crack-cut white oak floors run throughout the interior, as do built-in wardrobes made of white oak and Afromosia, an African hardwood.
A wall of Afromosia cabinets runs along one side of the upper level, providing ample storage space for the kitchen and dining area. Wooden slats define the ceiling above the kitchen island and the adjoining living area, while folding glass doors open onto the terraces.
The full-height windows in the dining area have views of the lake and views of Gas Works Park and the Aurora Bridge in the distance.
Further folding glass doors open the dining and living area to the west terrace. Operable teak umbrellas create privacy along one side of the outdoor space, while an open end maximizes sunlight and views.
The home is currently located on the Roanoke Reef Marina in Eastlake with easy access to the city and the surrounding area. Community amenities include gated access, covered parking, and additional off-site storage space.
The quarterly HOA fees cover water, gas, and sewer fees, as well as general upkeep for the community. Keep scrolling to see more of the property currently listed for $ 3,500,000.
Another view of the dining area looks back on the kitchen, living area and the second terrace.
The east-facing terrace also gives access to the roof terrace.
The living area has a diffuse glass wall to ensure the privacy of the neighbors. Built-in cabinets provide additional storage space on either side of a fireplace.
On the ground floor is the master suite with a view of the lake and direct access to an outdoor bathing platform.
The adjoining bathroom has a double vanity, a large shower and a bathtub.
The main suite has an integrated work area in one corner.
A rear view of the house shows a platform that runs along the lower level, providing opportunities for swimming or for mooring a small boat next to the structure.
A small roof terrace offers the best views in the house.
The home is on Roanoke Reef Marina, a floating community on the east side of Lake Union, just across from downtown Seattle.
