FORT MEYERS, Florida – When a Florida businessman got tired of a deep pothole near his fitness company, he took matters into his own hands and filled the pothole.

First, Bryan Raymond used traditional means like concrete to fill in the void. But when the concrete wouldn’t hold, he pushed his mission to the next level and planted a banana tree in the deep hole.

Raymond’s handicraft is known from other companies on Honda Drive in Fort Meyers.

“I love it. I think it’s hilarious. We should have more of this,” Scott Shein of SWFL RV Sales and Rentals told WBBH.

Honda Drive is the responsibility of the business owners as it is a private road, according to Lee County, WINK reported.

Raymond said the potholes on Honda Drive became a problem after he recorded video of cars being swallowed by the holes. The street, said Raymond, was also flooded enough for his dumpster to float away

“If we have to keep it up and make sure no one gets hurt, we’re going to put something obvious there to make sure no one gets into the hole,” Raymond told WBBH.

But not everyone is happy that a tree is now growing in the pothole at Fort Meyers.

“The tree makes it difficult to avoid the next pothole, which is right next to it. Because I usually only drive over the pothole, but because there is a big tree, you can’t drive through a tree, ”Nicholas Angus told WINK.
