GRANITE FALLS, Washington (AP) – A search and rescue team found two hikers stranded in whiteout conditions on Three Fingers Mountain in the Cascades northeast of Seattle on Monday.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue unit was alerted at around 11 a.m. on Sunday of the two hikers stuck on the mountain at 2,072 meters, The Daily Herald reported.
They could not get off because of the heavy snowfall, according to the sheriff’s office.
A helicopter partially lifted crews up the mountain at around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, if visibility allowed it. The teams then hiked in the snow for hours until they found the two hikers and helped them down.
The sheriff’s search and rescue unit advises people to wait until next year to do this hike.
“In the event of an injury or an emergency on the mountain, it is estimated, based on the current conditions, that the rescue workers need at least one day to be able to reach the location,” said the rescue unit.
