Getting fresh, local produce into the hands of the East African immigrant and refugee communities of South Delridge has been a challenge in the past. The USDA-designated food wasteland doesn’t have enough grocery stores nearby to meet the community’s needs, and the closure of the West Seattle Bridge last year only further isolated the area. After securing important funding from the King Conservation District’s local food program about nine months ago, the African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) decided to open its own farmers’ market.

With BIPOC farmers and sellers, the Delridge Farmers Market provides the community with locally grown, culturally appropriate options for fresh produce and groceries. The market begins this Saturday, June 12th, 11am to 3pm in the Hope Academy courtyard at 9421 18th Avenue Southwest. Mask requirements and social distancing protocols are required.

The Delridge Farmers Market pilot program takes place every second Saturday of the month from June to November 2021.
