The 93rd Academy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC Sunday April 25 at 5 p.m., but – as with many awards ceremonies during the pandemic – the process will be very different in 2021. Instead of a mostly staged affair with a host, the Oscars “will look like a movie, not a TV show,” the producers said in a press release (although there will be a few stars in the audience). Regardless of the format, movie buffs will no doubt tune in, and they need some solid, sparkling liquor and snacks that go with the glitz and glamor. Here are some options to look out for in the city in alphabetical order.

Bottle house

This classic madrona artisan has a reputation for being a solid, cozy hangout, but has made some adjustments even during the pandemic, including offering liquor kits to take away. The Prosecco Cocktail version includes Scrappy’s grapefruit bitters, brown sugar cubes, a recipe and a paper maché ice bucket that should keep the drinks cold for a few hours. On the food side, there are home meals for two (either halibut or grilled asparagus as a main course), plus a sausage and cheese box.

La Dive

For those looking to toast the year in the movie with a glass of sparkling wine, this all-natural wine shop on Capitol Hill should be the perfect place. Among the top attractions on the list is a sparkling Movia Puro (60 percent Chardonnay and 40 percent Ribolla Gialla) that comes in a funky upside-down container so the bottle can be emptied and the sediment spread out. There’s also a friendly take-away menu that’s perfect for watching the festivities begin: chocolate, gourmet salted cod, and sachets of frozen dumplings.

Homer

Beacon Hill’s renowned Mediterranean-style restaurant offers a variety of small takeaway options great for relaxing on the couch, including some wonderful must-try hummus and labneh, as well as must-try pork and lamb meatballs. The take-away drinks menu is extensive and includes cocktails like the mezcal sour stone gossard and a tempting rosé.

Samara

Located in Ballard’s Sunset Hill neighborhood, this upscale bistro is a special occasion restaurant that highlights fire-fried vegetables and a selection of carefully prepared seafood dishes. Items include the popular Dungeness Crab on a Charred Rice Cake and Duck Pie, which are available to take away and work well as a fancy snack platter with a sparkling Oregon Sauvignon Blanc currently on sale.

The Gerald

Ballard’s longtime go-out spot recently turned into a full-fledged Korean restaurant featuring short ribs, rice cake skewers, kimchi fried rice, and wings – all eventful meals or snacks. The drinks menu is sturdy and includes soju and some cava (for those who want bubbles). Marquee cocktail offerings include the poetically named Where Stars Drown featuring Batavia arrak, honeydew-infused soju, coconut milk, and absinthe, and there are kits available to make Somaek, a Korean beverage made with beer and soju.
