Just like in 2020, Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 9th, will likely have a more subdued atmosphere than in previous years. Restaurants have limited open hours and COVID cases in the Seattle area are still persistent. But the day is still a great time to party, and there are plenty of great options, whether offering takeaway brunch kits, gift box delivery of snacks and drinks, or al fresco dining. The following locations are listed from north to south. If newer menus or specials have been introduced, send us a tip.
Big little news
Capitol Hill recently got a newsstand that has some great hard-to-find magazines for sale, as well as other sundries that are often packed for the holidays. For Mother’s Day, you can pre-order a $ 50 gift box containing lots of interesting merchandise, including chocolate-coated potato chips, a pansy pot, an eco-friendly diary, a bottle of Tenuta Guado al Tasso Scalabrone rosé, the spiritual arts magazine Monk, and a selection of another publication that should appeal to makers and creators (Taproot, Kinfolk, or Create Magazine).
Cafe Campagne
Pike Place’s famous French restaurant has a take-away brunch box for four on its website that can be pre-ordered. And it’s quite a feast, including chicken and pork breakfast sausages, salmon rillettes, four slices of quiche, yellow potato salad, granola, and freshly baked bread (including rosemary and raisin brioche, honey butter, and shrimp butter mayo). For those who want to add drinks to the mix, there is a “Belle en Rose” kit with Parkling wine, Pamplemousse liqueur, Campari, lemon juice and candied grapefruit garnish.
Cafe Flora
The Madison Valley Mainstay – known for its excellent vegetarian and gluten-free cuisine – offers a takeaway brunch box for two. The products include rhubarb and ginger scones, spring mushroom and asparagus quiche, herb polenta cake with grilled nopales and dark chocolate moose for dessert. Add-ons include mimosa and Bloody Mary kits, plus $ 20 kid brunch boxes of strawberry muffins and scrambled tofu with fried potatoes.
Hannyatou
Chef Mutsuko Soma’s sensational sake bar (right next to her Fremont Soba destination, Kamonegi) has two juicy take-home kits to pre-order. One of them is a “Japanese Pantry Collection”, which includes smoked shoyu, citrus ponzu, spring shichimi tgarashi (a versatile spice and a bottle of Joto Junmai ginjo). For mothers who are more into mixed drinks, there is a second option with all the elements. You have to make sparkling sake cocktails, with some smoked Japanese bar nuts and “Mystery” Kit Kat flavors.
JuneBaby
The award-winning Ravenna restaurant in Edouardo Jordan offers a Mother’s Day brunch box to take away. The complete meal consists of prawns from the Gulf of Louisiana and semolina from Geechie Boy, smoked hotlink sausage, ready-to-bake buttermilk biscuits, potato hash from Yukon Gold, pink peppercorn and strawberry cake with cardamom spice and a glass of lemon jam. Diners can add pickled okra to Bloody Mary kits for $ 30 that serve four people.
London plane
With a selling space for plants and housewares, this bistro in Pioneer Square is always a great choice for special occasions. There are already Mother’s Day bouquets that can be pre-ordered online, care packages in the pantry that include wines and olive oil cake, and a brunch option for dinner on the covered terrace of the restaurant that includes a musical performance by the LADIES (reservations can be made quickly) .
monsoon
This upscale Vietnamese restaurant in Bellevue and Capitol Hill plans to serve some special dishes on Mother’s Day, including an Alaskan King crab and pork noodle soup and Muscovy duck pot stickers with nấc chấm, which are available for both takeout and dinner. The restaurant recently reopened its popular rooftop terrace on the Capitol Hill outpost, which should offer nice views when the weather is nice. Reservations are currently being taken.
Paragon
Queen Anne’s restaurant and live music favorite has a Mother’s Day brunch kit for two, highlighted by croque monsieurs for home baking, and should make for a simple but calming meal. There are also eggs from local farm partners, apple wood and pecan bacon, herbs and a bottle of natural sparkling wine to wash off, as well as freshly squeezed orange juice. Recipes for making the grilled sandwiches are included.
