Delta Airlines takes high-speed WiFi to the next level
Delta Airlines already has a robust in-flight WiFi offering, including free messaging. However, the airline has set itself the goal of equipping almost the entire domestic fleet with new, top-notch high-speed WiFi by the end of 2022.
By the end of 2021, more than 300 aircraft will initially be equipped with Viasat Ka-band satellite connectivity. The rest of the installation follows an aggressive timeline to modernize the experience on board the guests.
“Technology and entertainment are important parts of our customers’ lives,” said Byron Merritt – VP of Brand Experience. “By adding enhanced Wi-Fi capabilities to our fleet, we are taking steps to ensure we can adapt to the different ways our customers use technology on their journeys now and in the future.”
The new Wi-Fi system offers a reliable connection in streaming quality for everyone on board. Starting June this summer, guests will have access to this expanded connectivity for a constant price of $ 8 per flight, per device, regardless of flight duration or destination. Delta has also stated that their goal is to offer free WiFi at some point.
A new Delta Portal platform will be among the Viasat-enabled aircraft this summer to ensure seamless connectivity. On the new platform, guests can connect, buy, browse and stream from a device of their choice. Guests will continue to receive free messaging and access to their favorite Delta.com services at no additional charge.
