KENT, Washington – Officials say fireworks ignited the flames that destroyed a family business in Kent.

The fire in the 23800 block of 104th Avenue Southeast began at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday when fireworks were fired directly in front of the building.

Puget Sound Fire officials said a mortar shell was found in the parking lot and a surveillance video shows fireworks going off.

KK Market’s family of owners said they bought the company last year, but it has been in Kent for more than two decades.

“It must be heartbreaking for the family. It’s a business. It’s their livelihood, and it looks like it’s a total write-off at this point, ”said Pat Pawlak, spokesman for Puget Sound Fire.

Nobody was hurt.

Fire walls on neighboring shops in the shopping street prevented the flames from spreading.
