A Seattle resident named Kristine says she was attacked while breaking into her condominium in Greenwood. She has lived in the New York and Chicago area but says she never felt unsafe until moving to Seattle.

“So this event took place 10 days before Christmas last year,” she told the Dori Monson show on KIRO radio. “What happened was that around 12:45 pm my partner and I were woken up by one of my dogs who went crazy, which is pretty atypical. And so we jumped out of bed. You could see the back door of my building outside my dining room window, and my partner Todd looked out and saw tons of things being stored out there, ”she said. “So it was pretty obvious that we were robbed back then.”

“He went to investigate and he actually found someone in the building and chased him out of the building and ran several blocks until a car stopped, picked that person up, and drove away,” she continued.

She went around to review the damage and see what was stolen, and found that someone was still in the apartment.

“I asked this woman to go and she started yelling at me,” said Kristine. “And what excited me even more was that she kept saying over and over that there was nothing I could do about it, that even if she were arrested – which she thought she wouldn’t be – that she would just be” Lass Come on. And it was not a problem that she could do what she wanted. “

“We kind of argued and I chased her down the stairs and she walked out the back of the building,” she added. “And like I said, there were all the belongings of different residents here, outside the back door. So when we got down there must have been a suitcase … and when she was about to leave the building, she grabbed it, picked it up and threw it at me. And it hit me right between the eyes, so I had to take 13 stitches. “

Kristine says this is the third break-in in six months, and she says the current state of the city and lack of police presence make her feel like she is living in Seattle.

“This building has been broken into several times and I’ve called the police, but they’re not coming. They won’t come in unless you’re hurt, ”she said. “They came that night after I called them because I was injured.”

“I’ve lived in most of the major US cities and grew up in the New York area. I lived in Chicago for a long time before moving here and these are well known violent cities. But I never felt unsafe until I lived here. And that’s because there is no police presence. “
