Many bars adopted the policy this weekend after some places had to close because vaccinated staff tested positive for COVID-19.

SEATTLE – Evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 is becoming increasingly important when entering bars and restaurants in Seattle.

Restaurant and bar staff say the trend started to rise this weekend. Many now have signs saying “Vaccination certificate required with valid ID”.

In a random bar in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood on Sunday, there was a sign that read “No Vax … No Service! No Exceptions.”

“I’ve seen people [their vaccine card] laminated. I’ve seen people have it in ziplocs. I’ve seen people just pull it out of their wallets, which is awesome. I have a picture of it on my phone, “said Amanda Alfinez, whose family owns Some Random Bar.

Alfinez said Some Random Bar requires either vaccination cards or a photo. The policy applies to people who want to sit either indoors or outdoors. Alfinez’s family adopted the policy after learning that Cannon, a bar on Capitol Hill, would require proof of vaccination.

“We just did it. We got on board and I think that set a precedent. Not just in Belltown, but in Seattle in general, which is why so many places have started asking people for proof of vaccination in the past few days . ” said Alfinez.

KING 5 previously reported that a limited number of bars and restaurants began asking for proof of vaccination. It is estimated that more than 100 places have passed proof of vaccination.

Alfinez said the response has been positive. The biggest challenge is working with travelers who may not have a vaccination card or photo. She recommends saving a photo on your phone.

“I just want to know that I feel safe and that everyone else will feel safe inside, and that I make sure that everyone is where they should be,” said Alfinez.
