Amazon announced the opening of its new grocery store, Amazon Fresh, in Seattle’s Central District on Thursday.
The 35,000-square-foot store is the second of its kind in Washington state and the 17th in the country. The first location in Washington opened in Factoria in Bellevue at the beginning of the summer.
“We are excited to bring the first ever Amazon Fresh grocery store in Seattle to the Central District, offering our customers a wide variety of affordable, high-quality fresh groceries and a convenient in-store shopping experience,” said David Nielson, regional director of Amazon Fresh Super Market. “We pride ourselves that this store has brought hundreds of great jobs to the area and we are determined to continue to make a positive contribution to the community.”
Amazon can support the community through the new store. The opening will create hundreds of jobs, and the store plans to donate the equivalent of 50,000 meals to local food banks and initiatives like Operation Sack Lunch and Food Lifeline.
Amazon Fresh offers a “seamless shopping experience” with low prices for high value goods such as products, meat, seafood and ready meals. For added convenience, the store also offers free same-day pickup for Prime members. Some examples of the store’s low prices include bananas for $ 0.15 each, freshly baked bread for $ 0.89, fresh slices of pizza for $ 1.97, and fried chicken for less than $ 5.
Amazon is also committed to having local brands in its grocery stores. At the Seattle-Jackson location you will find Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, Macrina Bakery, Snoqualmie Gourmet Ice Cream and more.

While the store offers a traditional checkout experience, customers can also pay using a few different Amazon technologies. Buyers who choose the Amazon Dash Cart can skip the checkout lines entirely, while those who choose traditional checkouts can use Amazon One, a contactless way to pay with the palm of their hand. Alexa technology also allows shoppers to better manage their lists and navigate the aisles of the store.
The new Amazon Fresh Store is located at 2301 S. Jackson Street. Hours of operation are daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
