Another sign that COVID-19 is moving further away in our rear-view mirrors in Seattle, new events, attractions, and hangouts are opening up again, and it’s time.

This weekend, heroes and villains are showing up at a popular museum, another farmer’s market reopens, a popular sandwich shop gets a second location, and as a bonus, a brand new roller coaster rises at a theme park in the Pacific Northwest.

Read on for what to see and do in the Emerald City this weekend.

Attractions: MoPOP celebrates the costumes of Disney’s heroes and villains

Mirror, mirror on the wall – who is best dressed of all? This question will be revealed at the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) with the new exhibition “Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume” on Saturday 5th June. Seattle is the first stop on this traveling exhibition hosted by the Disney Archives, and a must for fans of Disney, fashion, or a combination of both.

Heroes & Villains features over 70 original pieces and props from various Disney films spread across a 2,000-foot museum space. These pieces include Cinderella’s ball gown from the 2015 live-action film (which was shot using more than 270 yards of cloth and over 10,000 crystals), Maleficent’s gown and staff, two of Mary Poppin’s travel gowns (one from the original from 1964 and one from the sequel to 2018), Jack Sparrow’s ensemble, Gaston’s incredible red leather jacket (with buttons with pictures of antlers), the three witch dresses from “Hocus Pocus” and much more.

The exhibit also features a “magic mirror” where guests can virtually try on different costumes and a “Getting Into Character” section to explore the different materials, colors and textures used to create these incredible pieces. The exhibition will last until April 17, 2022. It is recommended that you order tickets online in advance ($ 6 in addition to regular MoPOP admission).

Events: Magnolia farmers market reopened

Another sign of summer is just around the corner is the advent of the Magnolia Farmers Market, which will reopen on Saturday June 5th. Located in Magnolia Village, this market has become a treasure trove of over 50 vendors selling fresh produce, flowers, specialized food, baked goods and all kinds of beverages since 2003.

The market will be open every Saturday through September 25th from 10am to 2pm. Entry is free and the market is ADA-accessible. Sellers accept cash, credit, debit, and EBT / SNAP cards. SNAP users are automatically given an unlimited dollar-for-dollar game with the Farmers Market Match program, which can be spent in any of the city’s seven markets.

With the COVID-19 precautions still in place, provider participation may vary from week to week to allow for better social distancing.

Good Eats: HoneyHoles New Location

After serving memorable sandwiches to their customers on Capitol Hill for over 20 years, brothers Sean and Devon London and co-owner Hannah Roberts sold their love affair HoneyHole last January. The new owners, Kristin and Patrick Rye, not only pick up where the others left off, they have also opened a second location which, according to Eater Seattle, is huge.

Located in the Central District, the decor of the new location is both stylish and whimsical, with a whimsical mix of vintage movie posters, incongruous lighting, and even brass jell-o shapes.

HoneyHole roasts, grills, and smokes its meat in-house every day of the week, makes its own sauces, and buys groceries from local suppliers. But loyal customers know that HoneyHole is more than a sandwich shop. It also offers veggie burgers, salads, and side dishes with playful names.

The Dude, a popular sandwich with the locals, offers marinated flank steak, provolone, sauteed onions, tomato relish, mixed green, sweet, hot mustard and mayo on a demin baguette. The Gooch offers tri-tip beef, red onions, hot cheddar cheese, and horseradish mayonnaise on a demi-baguette. The Herb ‘N Cowboy Burger (got it?) Contains a field burger, spicy cheddar cheese, pepper-jack cheese, sautéed onions, BBQ sauce, bacon and aioli on a ciabatta roll.

HoneyHole also offers a variety of beverages including cocktails and microbreweries.

Weekend Bonus: Silverwood Welcomes Stunt Pilot Coaster

While we’re pretty far from Seattle, we know roller coaster fans will be keen to hear about Silverwood Theme Park’s newest addition: Stunt Pilot. It’s the park’s newest roller coaster addition, inspired by the park’s former stunt plane air shows. At a height of 105 feet, riders sit in a row on the Single Rail Coaster, which tumbles, twists, and turns through three reversals, three yellow ring obstacles, and even a barn before the fast ride is over. Stop by the gift shop to purchase aviator sunglasses or a vintage “Only the Brave” t-shirt to remember the experience.
