PIERCE COUNTY, Washington. – “No news” was neither good nor bad for Zach Jones, the owner of Fat Zach’s Pizza.

“Phase 2, Phase 1, Phase 3,” said Jones. “You have to change all the time. All you have to do is work and really think about what you have to do to survive. You have employees who count on you. “

Jones was one of many Pierce County business owners who braced for Governor Jay Inslee’s announcement on Tuesday. After finding out that all counties across the state would stay in their current stage for the next two weeks, Jones said he felt apathetic. The lack of emotion is a symptom of the constant frustration he has felt since the pandemic began.

“I think people just want to know when this will end. What’s the plan for the end date? “Said Jones.

Jones met us outside the Tacoma Dome, where the county health department continues to hold a mass vaccination site. His trailer is occasionally set up by the clinic for anyone in need of a bite, including volunteers.

“We want to do what we can to help these people on the front lines, helping people get vaccinated,” said Jones. “We love this county and just want to be here to serve these people.”

Finding Jones outside of Pierce County is rare. His business has two locations in Puyallup and Sumner. He also has his trailer that he drove to various locations in the area to bring the pizza to customers.

“I’m just like the little train that could. I just keep going and doing what we can to serve our community and the people, ”said Jones. “There were several weeks when it was very, very, very scary. I wish there was an end date or a better solution for it. “
