RANT to a dog owner who offered no help when I stumbled over my dog in the muddy grass in the park. I recently brought my very enthusiastic and hyper pup to Lakewood Park on a rare sunny afternoon after three days of constant and classic Seattle rain. The grassy park was barren except for a woman with her own dog. I ran with my puppy on a leash and tripped, overturned my dog, slipped and fell in the muddy grass. When the woman watched this event, she did not ask if I was okay or if she offered help. I was wearing a mask and she could have easily offered help in a safe way. Please help another dog owner next time. At a time of growing division and hostility, kind and caring actions are especially important.
RAVE to Ken Jennings for hosting Jeopardy! – You did a great job, Ken. Alex smiles and is happy like a blow!
RANT for those who do not wear masks on the University of Washington campus. My wife and I visit the Union Bay Natural Area and the UW Urban Horticulture Center frequently. As seniors and alumni, we enjoy the beautiful paths and trails for outdoor exercise. What we don’t enjoy is the large percentage of those on the trails, not always a safe distance, refusing to wear masks, and being rude and occasionally threatening when asked to do so.
RAVE to the wonderful host Carmen and the owner of the BluWater Bistro in Leschi. Thank you for creating a nice and safe place for our family to eat out during the pandemic. Carmen was gracious, strong, and polite as she followed her restaurant’s policy of banning large groups from eating in restaurants due to the pandemic. She did so despite not being respected by a young man and his friends who tried to sit down as a group of 10 to 12 people. My family had only eaten out once in the past 10 months and it was a pleasure to be able to go to a restaurant again. We had a safe eating environment, great food and friendly staff. Thank you for protecting our community. We appreciate you.
RANT to the rider who turned right on Northeast 43rd Street, stopped and nearly met a biker on the South Roosevelt Way bike path. Scold the same cyclist who then blew through the red light on Eastlake and Fuhrman avenues.
RAVE To the families of the Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club and the Rainier Yacht Club who, despite the cold weather, took out their beautifully lit boats and marched around Lake Washington because the Argosy Christmas Ships could not operate due to the pandemic. It made our evening every time they did.
