SEATTLE (CBS SF) – Richard Sherman, the star NFL cornerback who last played with the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested and jailed for domestic violence early Wednesday morning for domestic violence.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced on Twitter that the free agent was in jail.

Freelance agent CB Richard Sherman was booked into the Seattle Correctional Facility for “domestic violence” at 6:08 am today, according to King County public records. Sherman was also denied bail.

King County’s records show that Sherman was checked into the Seattle Correctional Facility at 6:08 a.m. on Wednesday and denied bail.
Further details were not known at the time of going to press. Domestic violence burglary is a particular charge in Seattle that “typically accuses the perpetrator of entering or refusing to go into a home, business, vehicle, or other apartment. In the case of first-degree offenses, they are also charged with committing an act of violence or carrying a deadly weapon such as a knife or a firearm, ”said Domesticviolenceseattle.com.
King County is investigating the incident as a possible crime, according to NBC Sports reporter Joe Fann.

In Seattle, law requires police officers to arrest the suspect in domestic violence cases.
Sherman is the vice president of the NFL Players Association. In a statement, the NFLPA said: “We were made aware of the arrest of one of our player guides last night for an alleged domestic violence incident and have activated our domestic violence crisis log to protect and assist all concerned. We will continue to monitor events closely as more facts are made available to us. “

Sherman, 33, married Ashley Moss in 2018. The couple have two children together, and Moss helped Sherman negotiate his contract with the 49ers the same year they got married.
After playing cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers for three years, Sherman is a free agent. He played for the Seattle Seahawks for six years, including their 2014 Super Bowl win, and previously played for Stanford University from 2006 to 2011.
