Street parking rates will rise to anywhere from 50 cents to $ 1 an hour in some Seattle neighborhoods as of Tuesday.
SEATTLE – The cost of parking your car on the streets of some neighborhoods in Seattle is set to rise soon.
The changes will take effect on Tuesday June 1st.
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) said the changes were due to increased demand for on-street parking for Target. “
“Establishing effective and affordable parking fees also improves business access by ensuring revenue from parked cars – a key to our continued economic recovery,” SDOT said in a blog post.
Seattle street parking fees are charged on parts of 12th Avenue, Belltown, Chinatown International District, Columbia City, Downtown, Denny Triangle, First Hill, Fremont, Green Lake, Pioneer Square, Roosevelt, South Lake Union, and the University District.
Parking fees will be reduced by 50 cents per hour in the evenings in the Pike-Pine district. Parking rates would stay at 50 cents an hour at most other locations.
Before the pandemic, parking fees paid in Seattle ranged from 50 cents to $ 5 an hour. With the June 1st changes, prices will range from 50 cents to $ 2.50 per hour.
On Sundays and public holidays, street parking is free. Private parking spaces are not affected by the change.
The SDOT said it will review parking data on a quarterly basis “to make incremental adjustments and respond to changes in demand in our business districts.”
