Another Barnes & Noble? Really
Physical bookstores are returning, at least in Kirkland. Barnes & Noble announced that it will be opening its first new store in the Seattle area in 14 years. It will join other retail tenants in The Village at Totem Lake that CenterCal Properties and partners have nearly completed. The tape cutting will take place on May 26th in the presence of the local author Kobi Yamada. His latest children’s book is Trying; He is also the CEO of Compendium, a publisher and gift company. The venerable bookseller, founded in 1971, also has stores in Northgate, Alderwood and Westfield Southcenter. The Bellevue store, once a bowling alley, is to be refurbished by Bosa Development. After being a public company for 20 years, Barnes & Noble was bought by private equity firm Elliott Advisors for $ 638 million in 2019. The chain now has over 600 stores. There will be a café in the new Kirkland store. The village on Totemsee is now saying that its Cinemark has resumed screening and that an Amazon 4-star store is coming soon.
