SEATTLE – The city of Seattle has extended a moratorium on the eviction of residential buildings, nonprofits and small businesses until September 30th, city spokeswoman Kamaria Hightower confirmed to KING 5 on Friday morning.

While the eviction moratorium is in place, Seattle propertyowners are not allowed to issue denunciations or initiate eviction suits in court unless there is an imminent threat to community health and safety, city officials said.

The arrangement also prevents tenants from incurring late fees, interest or other charges due to late rental payments during the moratorium. However, renters are required by law to pay rent and landlords are encouraged to offer flexible payment plans.

Renters who receive notice of eviction during the moratorium should contact Renting’s hotline in Seattle at 206-684-5700 or file a complaint online.
