The organization says it’s part of their effort to promote COVID-19 vaccinations. This also means that more than 9,000 fans can take part.
SEATTLE – Fans of the Seattle Mariners vaccinated against COVID-19 can get special seats and other perks with a new vaccination section the team is adding at T-Mobile Park.
The organization said it was part of their effort to encourage everyone to get vaccinated against COVID-19. “Vaccine seating,” which would allow more people to congregate with less stringent social distancing rules, was added this week as an option for sports venues as part of Governor Jay Inslee’s reopening plan for Healthy Washington.
In outdoor facilities like T-Mobile Park, vaccinated areas can be added until their total capacity is 50%, or 22,000 people, whichever is lower. Unvaccinated outdoor spectators must not exceed 9,000 people as per guidelines.
While fans in the vaccinated section are seated closer together, they must wear masks except while they are actively eating or drinking.
The new seats are available for Mariners games from May 13th to June 2nd. Other benefits include access to the T-Mobile ‘Pen Food Court’ and the Trident Deck. In addition, the team will provide full capacity private suites for fully vaccinated guests.
The team also offers walk-up vaccinations in the park for people who want to get vaccinated in the middle of the game.
The Mariners had previously prepared for baseball season by placing fans in “pods” of 1 to 6 people with plenty of space between the seats. Pod seating for non-vaccinated fans will still be available.
The Tacoma Rainiers, the Mariners-affiliated minor league baseball team, also announced vaccinated seats, which will be set up in time for the team’s opening day this week. And the Seattle Storm is also planning vaccinated sections, starting with its home opening game on May 15 at the Angel of the Winds Arena.
