Seattle Public Schools created a COVID-19 dashboard to track confirmed cases among students and staff in the district.

Seattle School District, Teachers Union Reaches Preliminary Agreement on COVID Mandates

The public dashboard is updated weekly on Mondays, with each week being defined as Saturday through Friday. The data is broken down into cases by region, week and role to provide a better understanding of the impact of the pandemic on the district.

As of September 9, there had been 44 cases in SPS – three among employees and 41 among students. The highest number of cases (14) is found in the southwest region. The dashboard only shows cases of COVID-19 confirmed on or after September 4th.

The confirmed case exposure reported on the dashboard may not have occurred at SPS locations. People with a confirmed case are currently displayed once in the dashboard. The assigned location represents the primary exposure location for each case.

The first day of school for SPS was September 1, when thousands of Seattle students returned to campus in person after a year of mostly distance learning in 2020.

All pupils, teachers and employees must wear a mask on the school premises. This is a recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In addition, schools are working to keep desks at least 3 feet apart, following another recommendation from the CDC.

There is also a nationwide mandate to vaccinate all school staff and educators in K-12 schools. Employees could lose their jobs if they are not vaccinated by October 18.
