Seattle reaffirms its place on top as Orlando overtakes New England for second

Previous ranking: 1

Next MLS game: July 4th at Colorado Rapids, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN +

After New England lost to Dallas, there is no sane way to justify anyone else at the top of the ladder. With that in mind, a 2-2 draw with Vancouver on Saturday shows the Sounders are not sacrosanct, and that came after they took a late penalty on Wednesday to get past Real Salt Lake 2-1. – Bonagura

Next MLS game: July 3 vs. New York Red Bulls, 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN +

Nani prepared for the equalizer and scored the winning goal in Orlando’s 2-1 comeback win over Miami. He has been directly involved in exactly half of the Lions’ goals this season, with two goals and three assists in his last two appearances. It’s the kind of purple spots (pardon the pun) that could make Orlando a real contender at the end of the season – if the 34-year-old can keep going at this pace. – Lindberg

It’s been an impressive week for Sporting KC, who outclassed Colorado 3-1 before coming back to beat the 10-man LAFC 2-1 at home. Daniel Salloi picked up the winner on Saturday after scoring two goals against the Rapids – Bonagura

Dallas ended its six-game winning streak against New England, ending the Rev’s five-game winning streak. The Revolution is still at the forefront of the Eastern Conference, but only two points clear of Orlando, who have a game in hand. – Lindberg

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez scored two goals in a win for the Galaxy in San Jose. The Galaxy won 3-1 with a San Jose own goal and added LA’s third, but the game could easily have been more one-sided. – Bonagura

Quinn Sullivan’s first MLS goal, a spectacular cycling race, is not going to be forgotten anytime soon, but a 3-3 draw in Chicago is not a memorable result for a club with ambitions for the postseason. – Lindberg

The 3-1 result in Colorado’s loss to Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday felt a bit tough, but the Rapids were still significantly outplayed in their first game against one of the league’s top teams that year. – Bonagura

Next MLS game: July 7 at CF Montreal, 7:30 p.m. ET; ESPN +

Keaton Parks equalized in the 84th minute and Thiago Andrade scored the winning goal in the fifth minute of the second half as NYCFC fought back> 2-1 against DC on Sunday. City haven’t scored a goal in the first half in their last four games but still won three of them. It’s a formidable determination, but not a sustainable long-term strategy. – Lindberg

Next MLS game:July 3 vs. New England Revolution, 5 p.m. ET, ESPN / ESPN Deportes

The crew have remained goalless in the last two games, but their fans can take comfort in the fact that Sunday’s 0-0 draw in Austin meant that former owner Anthony Precourt’s new team would not be in either of the top two Goal celebrated games in the brand new Q2 stadium. – Lindberg

Two points from two games this week mean three draws in three for Dynamo. The midweek 2-2 draw with Portland will sting after Fafa Picault and Tyler Pasher score goals in the first half, only for the Timbers to level the 2-0 lead and equalize in stoppage time. – Bonagura

One step forward, one step back. A recharged Carlos Velas led the Black and Golds to a sovereign 2-0 win over Dallas on Thursday, but after Saturday’s 1-0 in Kansas City, Tristan Blackmon was sent off early in the second half and SKC scored a goal twice to get all three points. – Bonagura

Admitting goals in the 84th and 95th minutes to turn a late 1-0 into a 2-1 loss to NYCFC will sting, but DC can’t expect to win every game 1-0. United have only scored more than one goal in one game twice this season. – Lindberg

The good news: Austin remains undefeated at home. The bad: It still hasn’t scored in front of its home fans. A point against the team that almost moved to Austin, the Columbus Crew, is a positive result, but it’s hard to enjoy a team that has only scored one goal in their last seven games – including a 0: 2 loss in Minnesota midweek. – Bonagura

In Cincinnati, you have to empathize with the fans. The stunning TQL Stadium is now open, but the FCC’s happiness at home has not improved. On the street, however, it looks different. The Fire’s three-game losing streak is over after a wild 3-3 draw with Philadelphia, but the underlying context makes for a depressing read and sums up Chicago’s season pretty well: Three goals in Saturday’s game make up over 40% the team’s goals out this season, and the draw was only the third time in ten games this season that they have earned a point or more. – Lindberg
