Street parking prices are changing again in some of Seattle’s busiest neighborhoods, but the Seattle Department of Transportation notes that many prices will remain relatively low.

Starting Tuesday June 1, parking rates in downtown Seattle and many surrounding neighborhoods will increase by up to $ 1 an hour. The highest prices will be in the Chinatown-International District in the afternoon at $ 2.50 per hour.

Tariffs are being adjusted, according to SDOT, to help customers find parking near restaurants, shops, cafes, and other businesses they may visit. SDOT also says that setting “effective and affordable” tariffs will improve access to businesses by ensuring revenue from parked cars.

“As more and more Seattle residents are fully vaccinated and on the move, we have seen increasing demand for on-street parking in many neighborhoods,” said the SDOT blog about the tariff changes.

Prior to the pandemic, some of Seattle’s parking fees varied from $ 0.50 to $ 5.00 for 60 minutes, depending on the time of day and location in the city. SDOT says other cities have returned to their pre-COVID full parking fees, but Seattle is slowly adjusting fees in line with demand. Parking conditions and dates are reviewed quarterly.

On June 1, parking fees on portions of 12th Avenue, Belltown, Chinatown International District, Columbia City, Downtown, Denny Triangle, First Hill, Fremont, Green Lake, Pioneer Square, Roosevelt, South Lake will decrease by $ 0.50 or $ 1, 00 USD per hour increases Union and the University District.

There’s a price cut: evening parking rates in the Pike-Pine neighborhood will drop to $ 0.50 per hour. In most other locations, parking is still $ 0.50 per hour, the lowest rate allowed by city regulations.

On-street parking remains free on Sundays and public holidays, including Memorial Day. This change does not affect private parking spaces.
