While “the most important meal of the day” was actually a lie committed by Big Muesli to sell more cornflakes, starting the day with a meal prepared by someone else is special.
With restaurant hours limited during the pandemic, breakfast and lunch were cut first and morning options in Seattle became more limited. However, things have been looking good the past few months if you’re looking for a good breakfast – three new spots have opened in the Capitol Hill / Central District area, and everyone is getting a hot coffee and a 9am snack in your hot little hands .

European travel isn’t quite back, but this tiny, foam-green shop popped up on Olive Way late last year to satisfy cravings for wandering the Parisian streets and for a nibble. The charming place offers classic crepes with ham and cheese, mushrooms or Nutella, as well as local spins such as blueberry jam and seasonal specialties.
When the Cortona Café closed its doors in autumn, the owner wanted to make sure that she left the room in good hands – the founders of Melo Juice. Melo Cafe opened earlier this year, bringing back the waffles Cortona customers relied on, as well as pastries, empanadas, and okazu pans from Umami Kushi. Of course, they also sell the juice that makes up the café – in the flavors Type-Beet, Apple and Classic (a ginger-based brew).
After the pandemic delayed this Renton business’s dreams of expanding, they finally came true by snapping up the former Cherry Street coffee spot on 12th Ave. Boon Boona built a reputation for itself as a monastery on its community through its friendly, welcoming space with its East African beans of fair origin and as a center. Now it is trying to do the same on Capitol Hill. Since it has just opened, it currently only serves pastries on the food side. However, if the Renton store shows signs of it, breakfast rolls may be on offer soon.
