SEATTLE – The FRS Clipper announced that it will suspend fast ferry service between Seattle and Victoria, BC until spring 2022.

The company announced that the decision was made due to the low number of passengers.

Service resumed in September after a 17 month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult business decision to shut down operations for autumn / winter due to the low passenger demand,” said a statement from a FRS-Clipper spokesman.

The company also pointed to public confusion over the state of the border openings, coupled with “strict Canadian PCR testing requirements” as reasons why continued service was impractical.

“To bridge the gap into spring, we will initially be reduced to a core workforce of ten. A tough day and a difficult decision for Clipper, but a reality given the ongoing challenge of the pandemic, ”the statement continued.
