The eviction moratoria imposed on Washington State and Seattle during the COVID-19 pandemic are expected to expire at the end of June. Could they be extended?
KIRO radio reporter Hanna Scott says there has been no news from the governor’s office whether they will issue a new eviction moratorium when the current end of this month expires.
Another legal victory for the governor if the eviction moratorium is challenged
Seattle’s eviction moratorium also expires on June 30th. Whether it can be extended, Mayor Jenny Durkan says she wants to investigate the data and speak to the governor about his plans before making a final decision.
“Right now, I don’t think it’s advisable to lift the eviction moratorium because we’re just getting out of COVID and the money is just beginning to flow into the community. You can feel things opening up, ”said Durkan.
Tenants have been asked to get help now before the eviction moratorium expires
