1:12 pm: This is the scene on SW 16 south of Roxbury that is closed until 5 p.m. for a block party to raise funds for the more than half a dozen companies that were hit by the arson last month, as on today’s preview list mentioned. Eating, drinking, shopping, hiking – we update.

1:42 pm: Just back from a quick tour of the block party – we’ll be adding photos shortly. First some information: To take part in the raffle / silent auction, go to the Breezeway by The plant shop, Midblock – that’s where we found a DJ Bugzy beatdown.

The entertainment program for the rest of the afternoon:

Now until 2:10 – self-doubt
2: 30-3: 15: Junior on the prowl
3: 30-4: 30 DJ DeVonne
5:00 DJ Bugzy Beatdown returns

That’s all center block. You can stop by too BOC music (3: 30-4: 30) and Monty Banks (5 p.m.) at Drunky Two Shoes and then at Southgate roller conveyor, DJ Dan Steely at 5 p.m. and Children on fire at 6 p.m.

Another big attraction besides street fair style shopping is the food.

There is a seating area in the middle of the 16th where boss Brady Ishiwata Williamswho will open soon Tomo, grills.

You can also eat outside Boo and Bizarre Italian cafe.

At the southern end of the block is the Home Skillit offers street food, including Louisiana Hot Links and Seattle Dogs.

This is all organized by the community; we talked to White center pride about what people can do to help the companies that are still working to get back on their feet.

Come down today, wander around, find out about the new places some have found, they said. (Your booth is on the east side of the block – watch out for the rainbows.) Some of these new locations are already open – The typical Oaxaqueña moved to the southwest corner of 16th / Roxbury – and some hope to have opened soon, like John’s hair and nails, Moved to 10261 16th SW.
