Why Duane Brown is the Seattle Seahawks’ most important business deal this year

The best news of the week for the Seattle Seahawks came Tuesday when LT Duane Brown restructured his contract just before the week 1 competition against the Indianapolis Colts.

Brown is Russell Wilson’s best pass protection and he is said to form a great duo with LG Gabe Jackson to protect Wilson’s blindside. He did a hold-in during training camp, reported to the facility, but stopped short of indulging in training.

With Brown back on the squad, the Seahawks’ chances have improved a lot in 2021, and Russell Wilson can even dream of getting back to his stellar form in the first half of last season. Looking after Brown is the best Seattle could have done this off-season.

Wilson needs Brown’s protection to do his best

An interesting sight during Super Bowl LV was Russell Wilson, who was watching the game in the stands with his wife Ciara and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Wilson seemed really upset with the situation, although there wasn’t much clarity as to why.

In the end, the reason was the most obvious: he was upset when he saw the Super Bowl because he wasn’t playing in one. But there was more: Wilson said he was upset with the situation because he saw how well Tom Brady was kept clean by a strong offensive line that day.

Brady was fired once for a six meter loss.

So it got weird right after the end of the season when Wilson made it clear in an interview that he wanted better pass protection for the Seahawks and that they weren’t doing enough to give him another title.

Los Angeles Chargers versus Seattle Seahawks

With a trade for the excellent Gabe Jackson and the restructuring of Brown’s contract, the Seahawks quarterback will have an air of calm around him. It’s not the best offensive line in the league yet, but the pocket shouldn’t be a big problem anymore.

# Seahawks manager Pete Carroll said yesterday that Duane Brown, who requested a contract update, would play. For this reason. A sensible solution brings Russell Wilson’s blindside protector back to the field. https://t.co/7toVDIawdz

Duane Brown’s career so far

Brown has been in the league for a long time and has shown himself to a high standard since he was drafted by the Houston Texans in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

He spent 10 seasons in Houston and received three Pro Bowl Nicks and two All-Pro Awards. After Brown missed six games in 2016 to get a new contract, Brown was switched to the Seahawks in 2017. Since moving to Seattle, he made it to the Pro Bowl in 2019 and was again elected All-Pro in 2018.

As a tall, athletic lineman, Brown is an above-average pass protector who does a great job of locking defenders in and stopping their pass rushes, especially when they’re trying to storm him. He’s also a fantastic run blocker.
