Labor Day weekend brings the last hurray of summer to Seattle and an extra day to do things.

Choose from two local fairs (or do both), see a live concert, attend an art show, or dine at one of Seattle’s newest seafood restaurants.

We have also put together a variety of events coming to our region soon. But whatever you choose, be polite, mask yourself, and read on to see what’s going on in the Emerald City this holiday weekend.

Measure: Do the Puyallup for free

If you want to take part in the Washington State Fair in Puyallup for free on Friday, pack a few cans of food and arrive at the gates between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., thanks to BECU, a sweet offer with free admission for the whole weekend Children. And on Monday, all active, reserve and retired military families have free entry. Remember that all participants aged 5 and over must wear a mask both indoors and outdoors.

While the fair still celebrates farming, barn animals, live music, rides on the 1935 Classic Coaster, and throwing down Fisher scones, the fair has expanded its offerings over the years. This year you can experience a Batman ’66 Batmobile (replica) up close in the new Hall Of Heroes: The Superhero Experience. With free admission, trade fair visitors can test their superpowers, discover fascinating mementos and take a few selected selfies. While you’re there, be sure to see the famous Budweiser Clydesdales and try walking in a large inflatable ball on the water.

Concert tickets are still available to see the Steve Miller Band on Friday, Carrie Underwood on Saturday, Salt-N-Pepa and Sir Mix-a-Lot on Sunday, and The Beach Boys on Labor Day. All concert tickets include admission to the fair.

In Monroe, the Evergreen State Fair ends this weekend with performances by Flor de Toloache, an all-female mariachi band, on Friday evening and a fireworks show on Sunday in addition to the regular activities of the fair.

Art: The redesigned art exhibition in downtown Bellevue

The Bellevue Downtown Association, formerly known as the 6th Street Arts Fair, has renamed the event the Bellevue Downtown Arts Market for the 31st time. The market runs Saturday through Monday and brings together over 110 artists selling their wares between NE 6th St. and 106th Avenue NE, ceramics, sculpture, woodwork, specialty foods, health and wellness products, and more. Here you can read everything about this year’s artists.

In addition to great art, enjoy live musicians playing everything from folk and blues to flamenco guitar, and enjoy a variety of food trucks including El Gran Taco, HP’s Smokehouse BBQ, and Seoul Bowl.

Good food: flood + wave

Just this week, the Hyatt at Olive 8 opened its new on-site seafood restaurant, Tidal +, bringing another vibrant dining experience to downtown Seattle.

Inspired by the Pacific Northwest, Tidal + has an ever-changing menu with an emphasis on seasonal seafood and some products that are readily available. Typical dishes include the Lobster Mac & Cheese, the seasonal seafood dip, and Tidal Flat Oysters. You will also find a special raw food bar that offers fresh seafood from the Pacific Ocean. Meals are prepared with the help of local businesses including Key City Fish, Lopez Island Creamery, Macrina Bakery, Carso’s Pasta, and Beecher’s Cheese.

Meals are complemented by handcrafted cocktails made from homemade infusion syrups such as the restaurant’s signature drink, SeaGarita, with salted sea foam. The menu also includes a selection of Washington wines and local craft beers.

Music: End the summer with a live concert

The two-day music festival, known as Day In Day Out, will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 3:30 pm in the Fisher Green Pavilion of the Seattle Center to close out the summer “with performances by Daisy, Parisalexa, Travis Thompson, Kaytranada, Chong the Nomad, Blu Detiger, Strfkr, Big Wild and Chuvrches.

The festival also includes a variety of food trucks, an indoor-outdoor beer garden, and unique VIP experiences for those willing to spend a few dollars more. However, fans of Portland-born rapper Aminé will have to wait to see him. On Thursday, the musician canceled his performance because he tested positive for COVID-19 despite being vaccinated.

Guitarist Carl Verheyen is best known as Supertramp’s lead guitarist, but he has also appeared on a number of television series over the years, including “Cheers” and “Seinfeld”. The self-proclaimed “eternal hipster” band Squeeze will be visiting the Moore Theater in Seattle on Saturday for their nomad band tour, and even the band is thrilled. Band member Glenn Tilbrooks says, “This is my most anticipated US tour since our first in 1978.”
