SEATAC, Washington – You will soon be able to order food at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with just a few taps on your smartphone.

SEA has expanded its food service in recent years and now includes a high-tech system with a robot server.

“I’m a Star Wars fan and the first thing I thought of was R2D2,” said SEA traveler Steve Dittman.

In pop culture, robots have often done some sort of job, but they always seemed like a distant science fiction dream.

But the robots have arrived: SEA has launched Gita, the robot that can now serve you food.

Order SEA is a mobile food ordering service that delivers food directly to your gate.

“I could charge my cell phone before the flight and have my food delivered at the same time,” says SEA traveler Christine Dittman.

“When a guest sends us an order, it goes straight into our system, prints a ticket in our kitchen and closes the transaction,” said Evan Ault, Director of Operations at Concessions International.

“We all hate lines. I hate lines. The fact is that the airport is growing and getting more traffic, we are looking for new ways to use the technology, ”said Sam Cho, Commissioner of Port of Seattle.

At the moment, most of the grocery delivery services are done by humans, but some groceries will be delivered to the hungry travelers via the robot Gita right at their gate.

“When you travel you are often limited to the restaurants near the gate where you are. This gives you access to any restaurant, ”said Cho.

Developed and launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, it provides another safer option for travelers by allowing people to avoid lines and crowds.

“Especially during the pandemic with crowds, it would be nice if it actually came to you,” said Christine Dittman.

Foodservice staff are already serving people through Order SEA, and Gita is ready to roll.

There are more than a dozen restaurants available on the system, which has already had a soft launch and has processed more than 1,200 orders.
