Seattle’s Monorail is still here, and it’s taking you to Climate Pledge Arena

The Seattle Center Monorail is expanding in capacity pending the opening of the Seattle Center’s Climate Pledge Arena on October 22nd.

Coldplay will open the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle

The opening is celebrated with Coldplay’s return from a five-year hiatus from touring. The Seattle Kraken hockey team will play their first home game against the Vancouver Canucks on October 23 at the former Key Arena.

The monorail is currently closed for construction work. The service will resume on Saturday, October 9th.

Construction began on Tuesday, September 7th and will continue through Friday, October 8th. The service will resume on Saturday, October 9th at 11 a.m. daily.

“The opening times will be [further] for events at the Climate Pledge Arena to allow transportation to and from arena events, ”read a press release at the Seattle Center Monorail on August 31.

The construction includes $ 6.6 million in private capital investment. This includes infrastructure updates, including double the system capacity, improved access in the form of passenger access through all eight doors, an increase in peak performance capacity and a strengthening of the connection to light rail vehicles and the regional bus networks.

It also improves the size of the passenger boarding area in Westlake. Monorail passengers will be able to use their ORCA card to enter an updated ticketing system that is a long-awaited integration with King County’s ORCA transit network.

In theory, Kraken fans can drive all the way from Northgate and Sea-Tac Airport to Seattle Center. Kraken season ticket holders have access to fully subsidized ORCA cards.

“Fans who ride the monorail can get from Westlake station to the front door of the new arena in an average of five to six minutes, including a 90-second monorail ride,” said a Seattle Kraken press release.

According to a project summary by Sound Transit, the average travel time from Northgate to Westlake station is 14 minutes.
