Seattle is a city full of unique, fun things to do. From The Gum Wall to shrunken head stores, here are 10 quirky ideas to do on your next trip to town.
1. Look at the gum wall
The Gum Wall is a somewhat infamous attraction near Pike Place Market. This alley wall is almost completely covered with several centimeters of chewing gum – and has been cleaned several times. Gum Wall is a popular sightseeing spot with both locals and tourists, and its proximity to Pike Place Market means you don’t have to be too far from other attractions to enjoy them.

2. Dare to enter the Ye Olde Curiosity Shop
If you’re a fan of the grotesque and the unusual, check out the Ye Olde Curiosity Shop. Part shop, part exhibition, this shop houses unique knick-knacks as well as unforgettable collections like real shrunken heads and a mummy.

3. Go to the Meowtropolitan
Make some cat friends at the Meowtropolitan in Seattle! As the Seattle version of the ever-growing cat café trend, this is sure to be a getaway to remember. While you can usually look forward to a hot cup of coffee and a visit to the cats, the café is currently closed due to the pandemic. However, you can still visit the cats and visit the gift shop by booking a visit online.

4. Visit a troll
Stop by and say hello to a real (well, cement) troll under a bridge with a visit to the Fremont Troll. Located in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, this troll is a popular photo spot with visitors.

5. Eat in a railroad car
Eat in a real historic train car at the Orient Express Restaurant. This restaurant opened in 1949 and consists of 7 carriages, one of which was once President Roosevelt’s personal transportation. The restaurant is currently open to guests with the option of ordering take-away.

6. Tour of the Amazon spheres
This Amazon office building dwarfs other company buildings! With a segment made up of several giant spheres, this is a really unique experience. Every first and third Saturday of the month you can stroll through the inner gardens of the Kugel yourself. While a ride inside is free, reservations are currently required and can be made online.

7. Watch a movie at the Majestic Bay Theaters
Majestic Bay Theaters is one of the oldest operating cinemas in the country. It held the title of the longest continuously operated theater until the 1990s, but was briefly closed from 1997 to 1998. When it reopened, it was completely converted into a larger, modern theater and is still playing films to this day.

8. Stop at Scarecrow Video
Here’s one that might bring back some nostalgia for readers who remember the days of video rental stores. Still a pretty interesting stop for younger readers – Scarecrow Video is the largest independent video rental company in the US. This Seattle store consists of several floors and thousands of videotapes and discs.

9. Play pinball at the Seattle Pinball Museum
Do you love old games? Would you like to add a unique stopover to your trip? Visit the Seattle Pinball Museum. With over 50 pinball machines in its collection, the museum is currently welcoming visitors. With one entry ticket, you can look forward to seeing and playing as many pinball machines as you want.

10. Visit the Seattle Museum of Pop Culture
