West Seattle Blog… | ROAD WORK: Roxbury repaving ahead; plus, Delridge project adds another closure

We reported two road closures this weekend – SW Genesee west of Delridge and west SW Alaska west of California. A summary of the warnings from SDOT today contain two more noteworthy:

REPAVING SW ROXBURY: First the good news. Hard to see in the early evening shadow, but our photo above shows a rutted section of SW Roxbury between the 24th and 25th that SDOT plans to repave later this month:

In partnership with King County, SDOT crews will re-asphalt SW Roxbury St between 24th SW ave and 25th SW ave. On Monday, July 19 and Tuesday, July 20, traffic obstructions are to be expected.

The working hours are Monday, July 19th and Tuesday, July 20th from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For drivers, traffic is reduced to one lane, with crew members guiding the drivers. Please drive slowly in the area. Watch out for cyclists and pedestrians, follow signs and expect delays. Pedestrians, cyclists and cyclists in the area will continue to have access to the sidewalk.

In addition, a tree pruning will be carried out from Wednesday, July 14th to Thursday, July 16th, in advance of the paving work. This shouldn’t affect the flow of traffic, but there will be occupation activities in the area. This pruning is to make room for the large paving tools to make sure we don’t damage the trees or the tools.

The once planned major project for the redevelopment of Roxbury remains suspended indefinitely, but such projects come on the market every now and then – in May 2020, for example, Roxbury was re-paved between May 16 and 18.

DELRIDGE BYBIRD: The weekly update on the Delridge Way work in preparation for the RapidRide H-Line has a new addition – the Delridge Way southbound will be closed “as soon as Monday 7am” (July 12th) between SW Holden and SW Trenton. Says SDOT, “The road will remain closed for approximately two weeks while we work to safely demolish and rebuild the north and south lanes on Delridge Way SW.”
